The foundation stone for the establishment of ASAM Betriebs-GmbH was laid at an early stage: Ingrid and Erich Asam founded their family-owned cosmetics company back in 1963. The first drugstore articles were produced and bottled in Berlin.
The company moved to Beilngries at the end of the 1960s. A wide range of skin and hair care products such as creams, gels, lotions, serums, exfoliators, shampoos, and conditioners have been produced at the new production site since 1969.
Through intensive cooperation with scientists, dermatologists, and chemists, Erich Asam became aware of the valuable active ingredient OPC, which is extracted from the grape components, in the 1970s. Studies confirmed its outstanding properties for skin care. The potential for cosmetic products was soon recognized.
Fascinated by the possibilities of using grape active ingredients in cosmetics, Erich Asam decided to take the basis for the production of active ingredients into his own hands. In 1983, he invested in a facility for the preparation and processing of grape seeds in one of the largest wine regions in Germany, the Palatinate.
In the second generation, Marcus and Mirjam Asam adopted the idea of grape cosmetics and founded their cosmetic brand M. Asam® in 2002, which is based on the research findings of the anti-aging effect from grapes. The company headquarters and heart of product development were then located at Unterföhring near Munich. Tapping into new sales channels such as teleshopping and the continuous development of products and product concepts were also part of the company strategy.
Decades of experience in the field of active ingredient cosmetics enabled the development of unique products in premium quality and offered the potential for new brands in the asambeauty family. High-quality cosmetic lines such as the maritime skin care FLORA MARE™ and the vegan, silicone-free hair line ahuhu organic hair care were created. The extensive product range has been offered to end consumers at asambeauty.com since 2016.
Continuing on course for growth, the individual companies created up to that point were integrated into the holding company BHI Beauty & Health Investment Group Management GmbH in 2013. In spring 2019, the Group took over a further production site in Steinach and expanded its product portfolio in the segment of decorative cosmetics. The family business Asam Kosmetik in the 1960s has developed into an internationally active cosmetics company today, serving the entire value chain from the product idea to the finished product.
